During his press conference last night, President Barack Obama repeated the false claim that embryonic stem cell research will cure Alzheimer's. That's despite numerous top level scientists saying the disease is one of the ones that is virtually unlikely to be affected by embryonic stem cell research.Obama was asked about the ethics of his decision to overturn the Bush executive order protecting taxpayers from funding research involving the destruction of human life.
"I think that the guidelines that we provided meet that ethical test," he said. Since when is destroying embryos for any reason ethical?
"What we have said is that for embryos that are typically about to be discarded, for us to be able to use those in order to find cures for Parkinson's or for Alzheimer's, or for, you know, all sorts of other debilitating diseases, juvenile diabetes, that -- that it is the right thing to do," he claimed. Well duh! It wouldn't be about to be discarded if not for the useless research which has shown NO results!
