Father Alberto Cutie, a priest and television host who was well-known in the Miami area, has left the Catholic Church and joined the Episcopal Church. The priest's change comes after he was photographed kissing a woman on a beach earlier this month.Fr. Cutie was received into the Episcopal Church today at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Miami.
At a press conference Fr. Cutie thanked God and those in the wider community who have supported him. “Your prayers have truly sustained me at this time of transition in my life. With God's help, I hope to continue priestly ministry and service in my new spiritual home."

This man is pathetic. He has not said one word about a lack of belief in the Church. He has lied and mislead the people who look to him for guidance. He has lived a secret life. He can't be trusted. He is all about "if it feels good, do it". He makes me cringe.
A couple of points regarding Alberto Cutie, as I am from South Florida and I have known his trajectory well.
At first I was very supportive of him because I felt at worse he would resign, become a lay Catholic and continue helping others. (He was director of Radio Paz down here & had his parish in South Beach)
Then jumping ship to a church founded by a serial womanizer and mysoginist, who broke with Rome ONLY to marry his pregnant mistress is all too telling.
1. In the famous pics on the beach he is reading a book from a leading Episcolpalian, sorry the name escapes me.
2. Rt Rev Leo Frade, head of their church in South Florida is a personal friend of his, "consulted" him at the outset but denied on a local Spanish TV show, Oscar Haza Show-A Mano Limpia, in the beggining that there was anything untowards or afoot as to Cutie joining the Anglicans.
3. We now have, undeniable evidence and pics of Ruhamma Cannelis, his girlfriend meeting with the photographers two days prior to the taking of the famous pics on the beach and another of her walking out of Cutie's final mass together.
4. As per the Archdiocese of Miami, Cutie was on a spiritual retreat of 1 month.
In reality he was holed up in Venice Beach, having lied to His Eminence AB Favalora, with his gal pal.
5. Please see the statement of Archbishop Favalora yesterday:
"I must also express my sincere disappointment with how Bishop Leo Frade of the Episcopal Diocese of Southeast Florida has handled this situation. Bishop Frade has never spoken to me about his position on this delicate matter or what actions he was contemplating. I have only heard from him through the local media. This truly is a serious setback for ecumenical relations and cooperation between us. The Archdiocese of Miami has never made a public display when for doctrinal reasons Episcopal priests have joined the Catholic Church and sought ordination. In fact, to do so would violate the principles of the Catholic Church governing ecumenical relations. I regret that Bishop Frade has not afforded me or the Catholic community the same courtesy and respect."

This whole matter is a farce and Alberto Cutie has show utter disrespect to the Church, to his parishoners and to the faithful throughout South Florida, by the way he handled this matter...

My thanks too Carlos, for the addtional information. Bishop Frade's behavior is an excellent example of the Episcopal Church's moral bankruptcy. I suspect his diocese isn't supportive of the Angican Catholics in its midst either. It is sad to contemplate how many of Cutie's followers will actually follow him, thereby proving their own weakmindedness.
It's tragic how easily this man turned his back on his Faith to suit his own purposes.
Cathy, it's actually ironic, Because Henry VIII who started the Anglican church because the Catholic Church wouldn't approve his divorce. Now "Fr. Oprah" is joining the same church.
