A real letdown. In a stunning confession, South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford admitted Wednesday to being "unfaithful" to his wife during a press conference meant to clear up his mysterious week-long absence.
The admission was the latest, and most shocking, installment in the evolving story surrounding Sanford's disappearance. He left town Thursday and returned Wednesday on a flight from Argentina, even though his staff had initially told reporters Sanford was hiking the Appalachian Trail.
"I've let down a lot of people. That's the bottom line," Sanford said Wednesday. "I've been unfaithful to my wife."

He was my candidate for '12, I really thought we had a winner in him...
And even worse than the blant affair is leaving your state for a week to Argentina without communication to the respective aides/agencies???
yeah....the affair is bad enough, and he handled the whole communication thing poorly
I wasn't quite sure whether Sandford was interested in '12 or not. Having the affair is bad, but I think its the combination of the affair and leaving for seven days without communication with his aides that makes his case look worse than it really is. He has admitted what he did was wrong. He takes full responsibility for misleading his staff and violating the trust of his wife by having an affair. I hope that Sandford and his wife can work everything out, especially for the sake of the kids.
