Fr. Rosica Rips EWTN's Raymond Arroyo over Kennedy Funeral

Just as I said about Cardinal O'Malley, I hope that Fr. Rosica is as quick to correct pro-aborts as he is to chastise Arroyo. And Arroyo is 100% correct.

BTW, THIS is why I continue to listen to EWTN; they teach the true Catholic faith, sometimes more so than our own priests and bishops.

The decision to permit a grandiose public funeral celebrating the life of pro-abortion extremist Senator Ted Kennedy has caused a rift in the Catholic Church in North America. Several prominent Catholic priests in the pro-life movement as well as other Catholic pro-life leaders criticized the decision, and advocated a more subdued private funeral instead. Boston Cardinal Sean O'Malley shot back Wednesday defending his actions with some fairly strong words for his critics.

However, the war of words has escalated to new heights with the latest blogpost of Fr. Thomas Rosica, the President and CEO of Canada's Salt & Light TV network. Fr. Rosica took a swing at pro-life activists generally, and his US counterpart specifically for daring to criticize Cardinal O'Malley's decision to participate in and allow the Kennedy funeral extravaganza.

It may be unfair to characterize Salt & Light as the counterpart to EWTN (the Eternal Word Television Network) since EWTN is viewed in some 100 million homes around the world weekly and S&L would be doing very well to have a viewership of even one percent of that number. However, Fr. Rosica's influence is rather large. He was the organizer for World Youth Day in Toronto, is a consultant to the Pontifical Council for Social Communications and an advisor to the Canadian Bishops Conference. He is, as they say, a man "on the rise."

I don't understand why Fr. Rosica would take a swing at prolifers?? Is he not prolife??

I would hope he is, but he sure doesn't sound it.

This is awful for Fr. Rosica to do such a thing at a fellow pro-lifer (if he is one). And ironically, it's not even compatible with yesterday's Second Reading from James 2:1-5! I just find it strange that a clergyman like him would bash people who are doing right by isolating those who have not used their righteous anger properly (which I think Fr. Rosica's attack is based on). Aren't they trying to do something right for once?

Oh, and here's my article on this whole thing (it's not going to fit in a comment box). But all I can say is just pray for them. That might be the only thing Father's going to be open to.

Salt+Light only has less viewers than EWTN because 1)they're far younger and 2)they did not want to sacrifice quality for the sake of quick expansion. Everything they do is exceptional -- EWTN could learn a lot from them. I love EWTN, but they don't know how to reach my generatio and foster a true Catholic culture.

While I disagree with how Kennedy's funeral became a production and a canonization, I also think there is a danger in everyone pointing fingers at the bishops. They're not perfect men, but they're our leaders.

And Father Rosica is right -- the Gospel is spread by love. The prolife movement isn't going to get anywhere with hate.

Very pleased with EWTN here ;) no desire to see them go "left" to be more "accommodating". The truth is what it is.
