KUDO'S to Bishop Sample for taking on a dissenting 'Bishop'. I seriously don't see the controversy. Sample is 100% correct, following Catholic teachings. Gumby actively opposes Church teachings.A public controversy has erupted between two bishops of the Catholic Church in the United States, with one of the youngest bishops in the country publicly taking on one of his own colleagues in an effort to defend the Church's teachings on homosexuality and other issues.
Marquette Bishop Alexander K. Sample, 49-years-old and one of the youngest US Catholic bishops, recently banned Bishop Thomas Gumbleton, 79, a retired auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Detroit and notorious promoter of homosexuality, contraception, and homosexual and women's ordination, from entering and speaking in his diocese, citing his pastoral duty to defend the "faith and morals" of the Catholic Church. The controversial bishop was set to address the group Marquette Citizens for Peace and Justice.
"As the Bishop of the Diocese of Marquette, I am the chief shepherd and teacher of the Catholic faithful of the Upper Peninsula entrusted to my pastoral care," said Bishop Sample in a public statement. "As such I am charged with the grave responsibility to keep clearly before my people the teachings of the Catholic Church on matters of faith and morals."
story here
From the Catechism:
2358 The number of men and women who have deep-seated homosexual tendencies is not negligible. This inclination, which is objectively disordered, constitutes for most of them a trial. They must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided. These persons are called to fulfill God's will in their lives and, if they are Christians, to unite to the sacrifice of the Lord's Cross the difficulties they may encounter from their condition.

My heart almost missed a beat. I just assumed the trouble was from the younger bishop. That it is the elder who is the trouble... Hurray! There is a little more hope and light in my day. Perhaps THAT generation is not only aging out, but losing it's power as it does so. If we can just keep that last grasp at the culture of death from becoming government mandate, we will do well. I pray, I pray like I never have before.
As a newer Catholic, I need to learn the rosary. It has been a thing of fear, both having come from protestantism and even Zen as well as the seeming complexity of knowing which mysteries, what days. I need to get a recording along with a manual... My goal is to add, if at all possible, a daily rosary along with my nightly prayers and occasional daily prayers. I hope to do it, and dedicate the rosary to the Church. The Churches health, vigor, truth, beauty, strength, and Life.
