Wow. Just when I thought CINO Pelosi couldn't be any more ignorant about the Catholic faith, she surprises me.The rift between House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the Catholic Church will likely grow thanks to new comments the abortion advocate made. Pelosi said in a new interview that the "free will" of women wanting abortions outweighs pro-life Catholic teachings.
Newsweek's Eleanor Clift conducted a year-end interview with Pelosi.
The conversation turned to the topic of abortion and health care and Pelosi blasted the Catholic bishops for their opposition to the pro-abortion bill.
She tells Clift it was frustrating that Catholic bishops "were not willing to accept what we know to be a fact" -- that the "public option" would supposedly not violate a ban on federally-funded abortions.
Then, as Clift asks about her "brushes" with the church, Pelosi drops a bomb.
"I have some concerns about the church's position respecting a woman's right to choose," Pelosi responds. "I am a practicing Catholic, although they're probably not too happy about that. But it is my faith." A "practicing Catholic" would acually "practice" Catholic teachings :)
story here
Nancy, here's a refresher from the catechism:
2271 Since the first century the Church has affirmed the moral evil of every procured abortion. This teaching has not changed and remains unchangeable. Direct abortion, that is to say, abortion willed either as an end or a means, is gravely contrary to the moral law:
You shall not kill the embryo by abortion and shall not cause the newborn to perish.
God, the Lord of life, has entrusted to men the noble mission of safeguarding life, and men must carry it out in a manner worthy of themselves. Life must be protected with the utmost care from the moment of conception: abortion and infanticide are abominable crimes.
2272 Formal cooperation in an abortion constitutes a grave offense. The Church attaches the canonical penalty of excommunication to this crime against human life. "A person who procures a completed abortion incurs excommunication latae sententiae," "by the very commission of the offense," and subject to the conditions provided by Canon Law. The Church does not thereby intend to restrict the scope of mercy. Rather, she makes clear the gravity of the crime committed, the irreparable harm done to the innocent who is put to death, as well as to the parents and the whole of society.

This is just insane! Free will means we are free to make horrible mistakes - abortion being one of them- and those mistakes take us away from God.
Personally, I think the Church needs to be more vocal on the abortion issue. I think they need to start taking a stand against politicians who outright defy the Church's teachings on morality and abortion. I think Nancy Pelosi should be the first person to be given an ultimatum by the Catholic Church, recant all your scandalous remarks on abortion or be excommunicated.
I agree. The Bishops have been silent since Vatican II. They need to wake up and excommunicate these pro-abort politicians who call themselves Catholic.
Pelosi: "…what I profess, and that is that we are all endowed with a free will and a responsibility to answer for our actions."
The fact that we are endowed with a free will and responsibility to answer for our actions does not affirm that it is correct, moral and good to abort one’s child. Free will is not a license to kill. It is an opportunity to do the right thing without coercion.
Pelosi: "And that women should have that opportunity to exercise their free will."
She means that women should be able to choose abortion legally. Should rapists be able to rape legally as an exercise of their free will?
Even IF the early Church had not taught against abortion we know NOW that it IS murder. Natural Law tells us that. Ultrasounds tell us that.
I think what's happened to Nancy is that she's been repeating the same thing overandoverandover and actually believes it OR she can't admit to making a mistake and like a child that's been caught red handed with his fingers in the cookie jar she's got to make up any excuse to justify her behaviour.
And the thing is...she DOES know the Bishops are right or she would not make remarks like, "I am a practicing Catholic, although they're probably not too happy about that." SOMETHING is needling her dulled conscience. I bet it's the souls of all those aborted babies.
Dear Nancy,
Thanks for your latest contribution to "Typical Pelosi Rhetoric". Free Will is a gift from God. It is not something to be abuse. You might re-read Genesis and take a clue on what happened to Adam and Eve when they abuse the gift.
