British government apologizes for Foreign Office memo that insulted Pope

The United Kingdom’s Foreign Office has apologized for a memorandum drafted by a junior official that suggested that Pope Benedict should launch “Benedict condoms,” “open an abortion ward,” “bless a civil partnership,” and “reverse policy on women bishops/ordain woman.”

In addition, Francis Campbell, the nation’s ambassador, has apologized to Vatican officials.

“The text was not cleared or shown to Ministers or senior officials before circulation,” said a Foreign Office spokesman. “As soon as senior officials became aware of the document, it was withdrawn from circulation.”

“The individual responsible has been transferred to other duties. He has been told orally and in writing that this was a serious error of judgement and has accepted this view.”

Seems like the British are just as good at giving a slap on the wrist for serious "errors in judgment" as we are. Ridiculous. I say fire his you know what.
