The Saint of the Day for April 11 is St.Stanislaus.
St. Stanislaus is a martyr and the patron saint of Krakow, Poland, where he served as bishop in the 11th century. While known for being an excellent preacher, well-loved pastor and spiritual adviser, King Boleslaus the Bold who ehld the throne at the time, hated him.
Bishop Stanislaus had denounced the king's cruel and unjust actions, especially the kidnapping of the beautiful wife of a nobleman. Bishop Stanislaus excommunicated the king and even stopped services at the cathedral when the king entered. Enraged by this, the king killed Bishop Stanislaus while he was saying Mass in a chapel outside Krakow.
Pope Innocent IV canonized him in 1253, and he has long been a symbol of Polish nationhood.
